TUMBLE 14 ATHLETIC 9

Windswept & torrential rain at Parc y Mynydd Mawr heralded the start of the league programme as the Magpies started life in division 2 west with a deserved win over visitors Athletic.

The home side adapted much better to the difficult conditions with a kicking masterclass from stand off Steven Hewitt. His measured out of hand kicks constantly put the Red & Blacks on the back foot.

The match was error strewn throughout by both sides, hardly surprising in the atrocious conditions and the Athletic's efforts were certainly not helped by having three players yellow carded during proceedings.

Athletic held a slender 6 - 5 interval lead, but a three to one second half penalty count was enough to see Tumble take the spoils.

Next Saturday, 10th September Athletic are home to near neighbours Pontyberem, 2.30pm kick off.
