Castell Howell Cup Final, Parc y Scarlets, Saturday 25th May 2018

ATHLETIC DRUIDS 38 AMMANFORD BAA BAA'S 21

The scene was set on a sun drenched pristine Parc y Scarlets pitch, as Llanelli & District RU Scarlets League Champions Ammanford 2nds. took on runners up Athletic Druids in the inaugural Castell Howell Cup Final showpiece.

As anticipated, both sides were fully committed to the task at hand which resulted in a competitive and entertaining game. It was the Druids who settled first and were rewarded with three well worked tries in the first half to lead 22-3 at the interval. The Baa Baa's responded well after the restart, and worked hard to reduce the deficit to 28-21 after scoring two tries of their own. The final five minutes however belonged to the Red & Blacks, as they first kicked a penalty, followed by a fine individual try under the posts. The match was played in the best of spirits, a credit to both clubs and grass roots rugby.

Druids try scorers: Dafydd Bowen (2), Ashley Williams & Jonathan Clark. Conversions: Sion Brook (2) & Harry Law. Penalties: Sion Brook, Dave Evans & Harry Law.

Athletic Juniors provided the half time entertainment as the under 8's took on their Ammanford counterparts in a tag match. The junior Red & Blacks were also successful on the hallowed turf! A big thank you to all who attended to support the club on the day.
