ATHLETIC DRUIDS 20 FERRYSIDE 14

Yesterday saw the final two senior fixtures of the season played in extremely hot conditions. The 1st XV will be exremely disappointed to have relinquished a healthy interval lead to go down by three points at Pontyberem. The Red & Blacks led 15 - 3 at half time after scoring two tries, a conversion and a penalty. They also had two tries disallowed which showed their dominance.

In the second period, the home side capitalised on two errors to change the game's momentum. The first was a charged down try closely followed by a speculative grubber kick from the half way line which saw the Bont winger pip the defender to touch down and tie the scores at 15 all. Committed tackling by Pontyberem forced mistakes from the visitors and a well worked threequarter try gave them the lead for the first time with ten minutes to time. A penalty extended their lead to 23 - 15 with just five minutes remaining. The last word belonged to Athletic as they scored a third try to make final score 23 - 20. A good all round performance but the Red & Blacks will rue those two basic errors.

The Druids led by veteran second rower & former club captain Steve Morse put up a good performance against league leaders Ferryside. Eventually coming away with the spoils 20 - 14.

Congratulations to both senior teams for their commitment & efforts during the season.
