Lifetime Achievement for Roy

Many congratulations to our life member and former captain Roy Bergiers who was recently the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement award.

Carmarthen born Roy is a former international rugby centre who had a wonderful career in the game for Llanelli RFC, Barbarians, Wales and the British & Irish Lions. He won eleven caps for his country and scored two tries, he also made ten appearances for the Lions on the 1974 undefeated tour of South Africa scoring two tries. He scored the only try of the game in Llanelli's 1972 famous 9-3 win against the touring All Blacks. The captain on 'the day the pubs ran dry' was Roy's fellow Athletic life member Delme Thomas.

At the end of his successful 'first class' playing career, he returned to captain the Red & Blacks during the 1982-83 season. He continues to 'give back' to the young people in the community as President of Carmarthen & District Schools Rugby Union. Roy is also an official of the Welsh Schools Rugby Union.

We at the club are very proud of 'Budgie's' achievements and his continued commitment and ecouragement to the sporting well being of young people in Carmarthen and district.
