Today we commemorate the milestone 50th year since the dreadful event which will always be remembered as the Aberfan Disaster. At 9.13am on the 21st October 1966, a landslide of slurry slid down the mountain side to engulf Pantglas School and a number of houses in the Merthyr Vale village.
Despite frantic and courageous rescue attempts, 116 children and 28 adults perished in the disaster.
Please spare a thought today for the lost generation and the dignified people of Aberfan. Rest in peace.
