WRU National League Division 2 West

PONTARDDULAIS 22  ATHLETIC 28

Perfect rugby weather and a lovely playing surface were the ideal ingredients for a pulsating league encounter. The large crowd were not dissapointed as the match turned out to be a cracker. The first twenty minutes showed why Bont are table toppers with sustained pressure in the visitors 22. The experienced home scrum half was a big influence in linking forwards & backs in some speedy attacking moves, but the Athletic defence held firm with some determined tackling. Continious pressure resulted in two penalty kicks to give the home side a 6-0 lead. Athletic responded with a foray into the home 22 and were rewarded with a penalty for offside to reduce the deficit. Athletic were reduced to 14 men after a yellow card, and the home side took full advantage by scoring a converted try between the sticks to stretch their lead to 13 - 3. The second period of the first half belonged to the Red & Blacks with continious attacks and they were unlucky not to score on two occasions being held up on the try line.  Two further penalties by Scott Maynard made the scoreline 13 - 9 at the interval.

The second half was probably Athletic's finest display of the season with slick inter passing between forwards & backs which resulted in three stunning tries scored by Tom Gravel, Robbie Thomas & Scott Maynard. Two conversions were added by Maynard to complete a tremendous team performance on the day.

Llanelli Supporters Challenge Cup - Quarter Final

DRUIDS 44  BETWS 17

A competitive cup quarter final played in front of a large crowd which included two Welsh squad players Ken Owens & Gareth Davies, was a great advert for 2nd XV rugby. Veteran skipper Steve Morse will be delighted to see his Druids side progress to the semi final against Llandovery at home on 11th March with a chance to play out a final at Parc y Scarlets, Llanelli.
