Athletic get global support!

Two former Red & Blacks and current vice presidents of the club met up recently in South East Asia. Mortimer (Tim) Footman who emigrated to Vancouver, Canada over forty years ago was accompanied by his kiwi wife Judi on a trip to Laos to visit old friend John Gwyn Jones.

John Gwyn is managing director of Panyathip International (English) School in Vientiane and his duties include being responsible for a total of five schools in the region. A lively scrum half in his day, he represented Athletic with distinction from 1981 to 1986. John Gwyn toured with the club to North America in 1986 and soon after emigrated to the Far East. He is a proud Welshman who continues to correspond in his native tongue at any given opportunity - da iawn JG!

Tim Footman is a retired long shoreman (specialist docks worker) and union representative. He played for Athletic Youth & senior teams as a flanker back in the sixties before going to sea as a merchant seaman. The son of former respected club committee member, the late Harry Footman, Tim is another proud Welshman who returns to Carmarthen on regular visits. After settling in Canada, he played rugby for Vancouver Rowing Club and captained the Meralomas during their visit to play Llanelli at Stradey Park. He was also voted British Columbia's player of the season back in the seventies.

Thanks to both John Gwyn and Tim who continue to support the club from their adopted exotic homes. Diolch yn fawr.
