WRU National league division 2 west
LLANYBYDDER 18 vs ATHLETIC 22
In an uncompromising meeting at Parc OJ, Llanybydder belied their lowly league position with a gutsy defensive performance which very nearly paid dividends for them. Bydder's last eight games have been close on the scoreboard without actually getting that elusive win, and on the evidence of yesterday's resolve they will soon be back in this division.
Having said that, the amount of possesion and pressure that the Athletic had enjoyed throughout the match would have normally returned a handsome margin of victory. A number of players were unavailable due to injury which saw some players play out of position. The set pieces at the scrums & line outs were dominated by the Red & Blacks but Llanybydder made it very difficult for the visitors to progress with a high count of determined tackling.
Llanybydder took their limited chances well to lead at the interval 11-5 and further extended the score to 18-5 after two minutes of the restart with a well taken converted try. The remainder of the half belonged to the Athletic as they scored a penalty and two tries to clinch the points.
Athletic try scorers: Aled Jones, Dan Davies & Josh Watson. Watson added 2 conversions & a penalty.
Next Thursday, we entertain close neighbours Tumble in our final game of the season, kick off 7pm.
