Another milestone for Ken!

When he steps out on the turf at Rodney Parade next Saturday to take on the Dragons, Scarlets Captain Ken Owens will make his 250th appearance for his beloved Region. This is the most appearances by any Scarlets player in the modern era and is another milestone in the career of this most consummate of professionals.

Since learning his 'trade' at an early age at Athletic, Ken has progressed through the Scarlets Academy to gain honours at age grade and senior levels. His dedication and application are without question the qualities which has seen him rise to the very top table of our game.

First capped in the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand against Namibia, Ken has gone on to represent Wales a further 76 times to date. He is his country's most capped hooker and he's far from finished yet! there is no doubt that his ambition will crave to get that 'Golden Cap' and join an elite group of Welsh Centurians.

His form has been consistent throughout his career with set piece stats (throw ins) particularly accurate. Ball carrying is also a big part of Ken's game in assuring his team keeps momentum and possession.

These qualities have seen him recognised by not only Wales but also the Barbarians and British & Irish Lions. In 2017, he was selected alongside fellow hookers Jamie George (England) and Rory Best (Ireland) for the Lions Squad to New Zealand. He played in six matches on the tour including two tests against the All Blacks. Ken was also honoured with the Captaincy of the Lions v The Blues, in recognition of his natural leadership qualities.

He leads the Scarlets for a remarkable 7th consecutive season - a record in the history of Llanelli RFC & Scarlets Region.

We are extremely proud of Ken and his very many achievements and we congratulate him on yet another distinguished milestone. Da iawn 'Sheriff!'
