RIP Alun

It is with regret & deep sadness that we announce the passing of life long member Alun Stephens, aged 83.

Former head master of QE Maridunum High School, Alun was a great all round sports enthusiast, especially rugby. He always encouraged young players to express themselves on the field of play and to enjoy the team ethic that the game brings - the 'espirit de corps'.

Among his many sporting activities he was a former Life Member, President & Chairman of Carmarthen & District Schools RU and President of Welsh Schools Intermediate Group. He was a first class rugby referee and his duties as a 'touch judge' involved a Welsh International match and the notorious Bridgend Centenary game against the touring All Blacks in 1978. That match was infamous for the facial injury to the Ravens captain JPR Williams. After receiving 30 stitches (from his father) JPR heroically returned to the field to complete the match which New Zealand won 17-6.

Our sincere condolences are passed to Alun's partner Lynwen ap Gwynedd and to his three sons & respective families at this sad time, our thoughts are with them. RIP dear Alun.
