RIP Anthony Maynard

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of former back rower, Coach & Committee member Anthony Maynard. He passed away yesterday afternoon after battling illness with dignity and courage for a long period, he was 59.

Born into a large and well known Carmarthen family, his much respected late parents, Ken and Lorraine were both former Mayors of the town and long serving Councillors who served the community well. The Maynard family were also staunch Athletic supporters with deep rooted connections going back to the early days of the club.

Anthony was educated at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School for boys, Carmarthen and South West of England University, Plymouth. His compassionate & caring disposition is reflected in the professional career path he chose to follow.. Among his responsible roles he was Head of Service, Learning Disability & Mental Health, also Corporate Safeguarding Manager, both at Carmarthenshire County Council before he was appointed as Head of Children's Services at Pembrokeshire County Council.

In his playing days, Anthony was a robust flanker who always made his presence felt on the field. He served on the Club's Committee for a period and also coached youngsters in the Junior Section as well coaching a very successful term with Carmarthen & District Schools, in addition he also coached Llanelli Schools U-15 for a season. His energetic and enthusiastic style was most popular with the children & parents alike.

Anthony was very much family orientated and was very proud of his three sons and their sporting achievements. Eldest son Tom was a very talented cricketer capped at U-15 level for Wales in 2005, his younger sibling Jack followed in his footsteps being capped at U-14 for Wales cricket in 2009. Jack was also capped for Wales U-18 rugby in 2012 and more recently represented the Wales 7's team. Middle brother Scott represented the prestigious Crawshays Welsh XV in the defeat of Cambridge University last year.

Our heartfelt condolences are extended to his wife Sian, sons Tom, Scott & Jack and their respective families at this difficult time. He will be much missed by his many friends at the club. Rest in Peace dear Anthony.
