ATHLETIC 7 TENBY UNITED 13

On the back of a very good all round display in the local derby success at Nantgaredig last Saturday, this performance can only be described as a 'damp squid' by the home side. It was the Red & Blacks of Tenby who put in the more accomplished performance to deservedly take the spoils.

Despite missing a number of key players, Athletic started on the front foot and deservedly took the lead on five minutes. After early pressure, slick handling ended with outside half Tom Gravell crossing under the posts. Centre Liam Price added the conversion to give his side a 7-0 lead. At this point, early fluidity completely deserted the homesters as they spluttered throughout an error strewn display for the remainder of the match. On sixteen minutes Tenby levelled the score with a slick try scored by centre Yannic Parker who stretched to touch down between the sticks, outside half Matt Morgan added the extras. A wrestling match ensued between both sets of forwards before Morgan landed a successful 35 metre penalty. The final ten minutes remained a stalemate as the visitors held a 7-10 interval lead.

Home supporters were convinced that a repeat of the inept first half performance would not be forthcoming, how very wrong they were! Despite some decent individual displays and competitive forward exchanges, the dreaded handling errors continued in a very disjointed performance. Tenby made much better use of possession and spent the first twenty minutes camped in the home 22. They were duly rewarded with a second successful penalty strike by Matt Morgan to extend their lead to 7-13. This turned out to be the final score of the game. To emphasise how disappointing this display was, not once in the whole of the second half did Athletic enter into Tenby's 22 metre area.

ATHLETIC YOUTH 26 PONTARDDULAIS YOUTH 14

These two quality Youth teams produced an entertaining game, with the Scarlets regional side getting the upper hand on their Ospreys visitors.

Athletic tries were scored by: Trystan Davies (2), Ben Singer & Jacob Davies. Iwan Glynn added 3 conversions.

The club sends best wishes for a speedy recovery to Jacob Davies who unfortunately sustained a nasty injury (dislocated elbow) in the game - Get well soon Jacob.
