ATHLETIC DRUIDS 54 PONTYBEREM 2nds 12
On a fine autumnal afternoon an enjoyable local derby was played on a perfect playing surface at Athletic Park. The entertaining and competitive encounter was full of well taken tries and unfortunately - a spate of injuries!
The Druids suffered no less than FIVE serious injuries in this game which was played in the best of spirits. Dean 'The Marine' Harries broke a collar bone, Will Rowberry dislocated his shoulder, Darren Simpson broke three bones in his wrist, Gareth Bennett broke two ribs & Ben Rowe tore a tendon in his shoulder. A few opposition players also suffered injuries.
Amazingly, three of the Druids players stayed on the field for the duration despite getting injured in the early stages of the match. We wish all the walking wounded a speedy recovery.
The club has not experienced any injuries of this magnitude for some time, so to suffer FIVE in one game is extremely rare and unheard of. A most unwelcomed record!
