Saturday 9th September
WRU National League Division 2 West
FISHGUARD & GOODWICK 21 ATHLETIC 28
The Red & Blacks won a second successive league match on today's visit to the Moor in Goodwick. Although the visitors enjoyed much of territorial play they found themselves trailing 5 - 3 at the interval. Tom Gravel opened the scoring for the Athletic with a well struck penalty but the Seagulls took advantage of a sloppy pass to intercept and score a try on the stroke of half time. Fortunately, alert winger Josh Watson charged down the conversion attempt to prevent the extra points.
Athletic got off to a good start in the second half with a try by flanker Calum Evans which was converted by Gravel. The contest see sawed with Fishguard scoring sixteen points in the second period, while the visitors added a further two tries by Robbie Thomas & Llyr Owen. Tom Gravel kicked a brace of penalties and a conversion to bring his personal tally to thirteen points on the day. The home team salvaged a losing bonus point via a penalty with almost the final act of the game.
Well attended training sessions in pre season and up to date is beginning to bare fruit on match days. Next Saturday the Red & Blacks welcome the #greenmachine of Whitland to Athletic Park for what should be quite a tussle.
