WRU National League Division 2 West

ATHLETIC 59 PONTARDDULAIS 15

A respectful minute of silence was observed prior to kick off, in memory of former player Paul Rees who sadly passed away last weekend.

On a sun drenched Athletic Park, supporters were treated to 'champagne' rugby. In complete contrast to last week's inept performance at Tumble, Athletic demonstrated deft skills in combining forward & back play seamlessly to race to a 31-0 half time lead courtesy of tries by Josh Watson, Dan Davies, Gethin Phillips & Robbie Thomas with four conversions and a penalty from the trusty boot of Tom Gravell.

After the interval, the home side started where they left off with a second try for impressive centre Dan Davies, converted by Tom Gravell. Further tries were scored by Carwyn Thomas, a third for Dan Davies and Wayne Rice all of which were converted by Gravell. Bont were much more competitive in the second half and were rewarded with three well worked tries of their own.

Special mention must be made of the accuracy of outside half Tom Gravell's kicking. Getting a 100% return from nine efforts at goal from every angle on the pitch.

Next Saturday, the Red & Blacks entertain high flyers Pontyberem, 2.30pm KO

Castell Howell Cup - Semi final

ATHLETIC DRUIDS 3 AMMANFORD ATHLETIC 31

A well drilled Ammanford side proved too strong for the Druids in this meeting of last seasons finalists. We wish them well for the final to be held at Parc y Scarlets in May.
