Many congratulations to Carmarthen girl Emma Finucane who won an Olympic Gold medal with the GB Womens Sprint Team, at the Paris Velodrome on Monday 5th August.
21 year old reigning World Champion in the individual sprint, Emma rode the anchor leg, to bring home the victory for GB while creating a new world record in the process.
Her brother Sean played for the Club's Juniors & Youth and also turned out on the wing for the Druids.
Finucane became the first British woman Olympian to win a hat trick of medals in a single games, since swimmer Joyce Cooper won a silver & two bronze medals at the Amsterdam Games in 1928. In addition to Monday's Gold, she also collected Bronze medals in the keirin and the in the individual sprint. Carmarthen must now surely pay permanent homage to this amazing Athlete by renaming the cycle track at the Park - 'The Emma Finucane Velodrome'.
