ATHLETIC 9 PONTARDDULAIS 17

In a lack lustre display, Athletic succumbed to a disappointing home defeat at the hands of visitors Pontarddulais.

The first half hour belonged to the home side as they led 6-0 courtesy of two Scott Maynard penalties. However, two clear try scoring opportunities were spurned which would prove pivotal to the final outcome. On 35 minutes, Bont got into the home 22 and were rewarded with a penalty by George Mbofana to reduce the deficit. From the re-start, Bont gathered momentum through a number of phases and continued to pressurise in the home 22. Pressure turned into points as scrum half Ethan Dunne worked his way over for a smart try. Mbofana added the conversion followed by the referee's whistle for half time.

Trailing by 6-10, it was felt by Athletic faithful that more urgency was required to regain the lead. A missed effort at goal was followed on the ten minute mark with a successful strike by Maynard to make it a one point game. Further pressure from the Red & Blacks allowed another pot at goal which sailed just wide. With play fluctuating back & forth, an attempted defensive clearance kick was gathered by Bont centre Llyr Gealy, who raced in from 30 metres. Mbofana added the extra points. Six minutes later, referee Jason Summers halted proceedings.

The coaches & players will be deeply disappointed by this lethargic display which was in complete contrast to last Saturday's excellent away win at Loughor.
