Inspiring!

Good Friday, 29th March 2024 - National Youth Plate Final

With his 'game head' on, Athletic Youth Captain Lewys Thomas prepares to lead his Red & Blacks Squad down the Principality Stadium tunnel.

The skipper was accompanied by mascot Corey Clarke a member of Athletic's Mini & Junior Section & son of Druids Coach Jonathan Clarke. A wonderful experience for both to set foot onto the hallowed turf.

The Youth made us all proud as they became the third generation Club Youth team to raise aloft a National Trophy at the home of Welsh Rugby. The Youth provided a brilliant six try performance, in overcoming the challenge of Rhymney Valley side Bargoed by 34 points to 22 points. Two late tries by Bargoed brought some respectability to the final score after Athletic led 34-8 with just minutes remaining. The team lifted the National Plate Trophy to great applause from the fantastic support which were present to witness the final.

Try scorers: Jac Bennett, Ethan Price (2), Benjamin Thomas, Harry Conick & Charlie Clarke. Conversion: Harry Conick (2). Player of the Match: Osian Williams.

Previous success for Athletic Youth in Cardiff were 1993 & 2013 National Cup Winners. In addition, the Youth became 2012 National Cup Runners-up.

The brilliant picture opposite will be prove to be inspiring for the ambitions of all youngsters who proudly wear the Red & Black shirt. Athletic yw y gorau!
